Punjab Police raises vigil around CM and VVIPs

Chandigarh, Sep 10 (UNI) The Punjab Police have raised the level of vigil around VVIPs, including Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, following the recent recovery of RDX in Ludhiana district.

State DGP N P S Aulakh today held a detailed discussion with senior police officers on the law and order scenario. He gave instructions to step up vigil in the state keeping in view the recent cases of recovery of counterfeit currency, drugs and explosives.

Presiding over the monthly meeting held here to review the performance of SSPs, the DGP asked the field officers to prepare an action plan for checking crime and maintain a vigil on the activities of former terrorists. He called for 'sensitising' VVIP security.

He directed officers to keep a close watch on the activities of notorious culprits released from jails and on strong networking of accused lodged in different jails. Police official were also directed to streamline the functioning of special branches in districts to gather vital intelligence inputs so as to take preventive measures.

Showing concern on the issue of security of banks and other financial institutions, the DGP directed the SSP's to convene a meeting with the management of these institutions to coordinate and work out a comprehensive security plan. He informed that this matter would also be taken up with the Reserve Bank of India.

He directed the field officers to be more accessible to the public and redress their grievances by showing them due respect. He appreciated the initiative of Faridkot SSP of drafting a Citizen Charter and exhorted the other districts to follow it.

He also directed the field officers to dispense with the practice of parading the accused in the media. The Punjab State Human Rights Commission has also taken an adverse view of this practice.
