New Delhi, Sep 10 (UNI) Seven out of nine districts of the National Capital Teritory of Delhi have been categorised as over exploited as per the latest assessment of ground water resources of NCT Delhi, Minister of State for Water Resources Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav informed in a written reply in the Lok sabha today.

The assessment was carried out jointly by the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) and the State in 2004 and identified South, South-West, New Delhi, North- West, East and North-East districts as over-exploited.

Mr Narayan said where the stage of ground-water exploitation is more than 100 per cent it is being described as over-exploited and that there has been a significant decline in ground water level.

The Governemnt of NCT Delhi has planned to amend the Water Board Act for regulation of ground water in the region. Drinking water is supplied to Dwarka subcity from the Nangloi water treatment plant, which is presently working at half its capacity, producing 20 Million Gallons per Day (MGD), against a capacity of 40 MGD. The water supply to Dwarka sub-city can be improved after full commissioning of Nangloi water treatment plant.

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is also planning to construct a 50 MGD capacity water treatment plant at Dwarka, the minister added.
