NTPC hit by attrition, executives taking flight

New Delhi, Sept 10: Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today said that 165 executives quit the country's largest power producer, NTPC in 2006-07 in pursuit of better pay and perks.

The attrition percentage for the year is 1.55 per cent, Mr Shinde told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

He said a better pay package may help in retaining the executives while the state-owned company is also pursuing HRD initiatives to enhance organisational performance.

Other initiaives by NTPC to retain the work-force include aliging individual and organisation needs and develop business leaders and increase commitment of the employees by recoginising and rewarding high performance.

The company is also institutionalising core values and is creating a culture of team-building, empowerment, equity, innovation and openess, which would motivate employees and enable achievement of strategic objectives.
