Nine drowned in two boat mishaps in flood affected Bihar district

Begusarai, Sep 10 (UNI) Altogether nine people including a woman and a child drowned in two separate boat mishaps in the flood ravaged north Bihar district since last night.

Informing these District Magistrate Sanjeev Hans today said seven passengers of a countrymade boat went missing after it capsized midstream in the rainfed Budi Gandak river near Dighwara Ghat area last night.

The ill-fated boat was ferrying about 30 people when the accident took place, the D M said adding that of them 23 people either swam to safety or were rescued by the local people, while the trace of seven others were yet to be find.

However, all out efforts were being made by the district authorities to trace the missing people and deployed several divers and a large number of fishermen for the purpose.

In another incident today a woman and a child drowned when their boat capsized in the high current of flood waters near Sonwa Pranpur railway station under Gadhpura police station area of the district.

Mr Hansa said 15 people were travelling in the boat when it capsized Of them 13 could swam to safety but the two died. Later their bodies were fished out from a nearby area, he added.
