Monsoon turns weak in northwest region

Chandigarh, Sep 10 (UNI) Monsoon turned weak in the north-west India with only a few areas in the region receiving rain during the past 24 hours.

Light to moderate rain lashed some areas in Haryana with Balabgarh recording 20.0 mm downpour overnight. Nangal Choudhary and Narnaul in Mahendergarh district received 10.0 mm and 9.0 mm respectively, while Hissar measured 2.8 mm rain till this morning.

Rain also lashed few areas in Punjab where Ludhiana received 16.1 mm overnight. However, Himachal Pradesh had respite from wet conditions as the rain eluded the hilly state. The weather was clear in most areas during the day. However, tribal areas reeled under cold climatic conditions following fall in mercury.

Chandigarh and its adjoining areas also had respite from rains.

However, humid weather persisted in the city, which recorded the maximum humidity at 95 per cent and the minimum at 51 per cent.

The Met Office predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at few places in Himachal Pradesh and isolated areas in Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours.
