Modi criticises UPA Govt for its failure to prevent terror attacks

Surat, Sep 10 (UNI) Criticising the ruling UPA Government at the Centre, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said the incidents of terror at Malegaon in Maharashtra, Delhi and Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh were the result of its failure.

Addressing a gathering of the Maharashtrian Samaj here, Mr Modi said, ''The UPA Government had failed to stop terrorism in the country and the bomb blasts at Malegaon, Delhi and Hyderabad were the result of its failure to prevent such attacks.'' He challenged the Union government to bring back the sword of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji from United Kingdom, saying if it was not possible for them, he will get it.

Mr Modi said, ''Congress and the media persons had criticised me when I was elected as the Chief Minister and they had claimed that it was not possible for an inexperienced person like me to rule the state.'' The Chief Minister said six years ago, the state exchequer had incurred a deficit of Rs 6,700 crore, but under his regime, it has gained a surplus of Rs 4,000 crore.

Today, Gujarat is one of the states in the country paying the highest revenue to the Centre, even Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved that Gujarat is the best state for investment, he added.

State BJP president Purshottam Roopala, State Water Minister Narottam Patel and city Mayor Kanu Mawani among others were also present at the function.
