New Delhi, Sep 10 (UNI) For the second day in succession, moderate to heavy showers cooled Delhi, providing relief from hot and humid conditions.

The showers lashed the city all of a sudden at around 1400 hours following a build up of heavy clouds on the skyline.

Though only 4.2 mm of rain was recorded till 1730 hours, the short burst of heavy showers led to drop in mercury in the national Capital.

While the minimum temperature dropped slightly to 26 degrees Celsius, the maximum too fell to 34.8 degrees C, from 35.3 degrees C yesterday.

Earlier, Delhiites woke up to a cloudy sky this morning, which was followed by a cloudy weather interspersed with periods of sunlight.

This is the second day in succession that Delhiites have experienced a sudden short burst of rainfall after partly cloudy conditions during the early part of the day.

The weathermen attribute the freaky weather in Delhi over the past few days - a period of sunlight followed by sudden build up of clouds and short burst of rainfall - to the influence of a Monsoon trough whose axis currently runs close to foothills of the Himalayas.

The Met office have forecast a partly cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with likelihood of thundry development or light rains in a few areas.
