Karnataka set to admit students in Government technical colleges
New Delhi, Sep 10 (UNI) Karnataka Public Works Minister H D Revanna today said the State Government is willing to start admissions to Government Engineering Colleges in the state provided there was a 'No Objection Certificate (NOC)' from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
He said for the first time in many years, the Government had started engineering colleges in five places of the state which include the upgraded Sri Jayachamarajendra Polytechnic to the status of an engineering college.
Apart from that, four new colleges had come up in Ramanagar, KR Pet, Chamarajanagar and Hassan and the government had provided Rs 240 crore for the infrastructure development of these colleges, he added.
Moreover, the state had proposed to start four more engineering colleges in Hoovina Hadagali, Raichur, Haveri and Kushala Nagar where lands are available for the proposed institutes.
''If there is a NOC from the AICTE, the government is willing to admit students from this academic year itself,'' Mr Revanna said.
Special efforts were on to scout teaching staff for these engineering colleges, including promoting suitable qualified teachers and recruiting new teachers from the State Public Service Commission.
He said these engineering colleges would be a blessing to the poor students who could not afford the high fees charged by the private institutions.
''We have placed a proposal before the government to bear the fees of below poverty line students in technical education,'' he added.
