Jamait-Ulama-i-Hind demands implementation of Sachar report
New Delhi, Sep 10 (UNI) Accusing the UPA Government of having failed to address the problems of the Muslim community, the Jamait-Ulama-i-Hind threatened to launch a nation-wide agitation if its demands, including implementation of Sachar and Sri Krishna Committee reports, were not fulfilled.
''When the UPA came to power in 2004 it assured us that justice will be done with Muslims... Its almost three-and-a-half years now and the Government has not taken any substantial step reflecting its seriousness in protecting the interest of the community,'' Jamait General Secretary Mohammad A Madani said.
The Jamait-Ulama-i-Hind also submitted a memorandum, listing out its demands to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Mr Madani said if the Government fails to respond ''positively'' within a month, it will launch the 'Save the Country and Nation Movement.' ''We will force the Government to accede to our demands through democratic and peaceful means,'' he added.
He said for achieving political, social, educational and economic development of Muslims it is necessary to provide the community reservation.
