Chennai, Sep 10 (UNI) Indian Oil Research and Development (R&D) Centre and National Centre of Catalysts Research (NCCR) at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras have signed an agreement for joint development of process for prepration of alumina with special characteristics, here today.

The alumina prepared under this collaboration will be used for making cost effective and state-of-the-art hydroprocessing catalysts.

Further, scientists and engineers from the two organisations will also explore the methodology of establishing structure property correlations of indigenously developed catalyst system from the alumina.

IOC Executive Director (R&D) Makhija said IOC R&D Centre had generated considerable expertise within a relatively short period for the development and commercial exploitation of refining catalysts such as FCC, additives and select hydroprocessing catalysts and adsorbents.

He pointed out the IOCL had recently formed a JV --Indocat--with US-based Intercat for manufacturing of FCC catalysts and additives.

IIT officials added the technology alliance complemented the strengths of Indian Oil R&D Centre and NCCR who will utilise this synergy for the development of catalytic materials aimed towards making the country self-sufficient in the niche area of catalyst technologies.
