Jaipur, Sep 10 (UNI) In a significant decision on the Gujjar reservation issue, Rajasthan High Court today directed the state government not to be pressurised to write the letter recommending quota for the community to the central government.

The High Court also directed that the proposed Gujjar mahapanchayat to be held on September 13 in Dholpur should have the requisite permission and should obey the various guidelines set by the Supreme Court regarding mahapanchayats.

The Apex Court had issued certain guidelines to maintain law and order during the proposed Dolpur mahapanchayat.

Justice Prem Shankar Osapa gave the orders after hearing the petition filed by the Meena community leader Sri Narayan Khemla and Lakhan Singh to ban the proposed Dholpur mahapanchayat. The Meena community are totally against providing ST status to Gujjars.

The petition had demanded a ban on the mahapanchayat and said that the formation of the Jasraj Chopra committee was illegal and had demanded a ban on it too.

The High Court said prior permission of district collectors is mandatory to hold mahapanchayats regarding reservation issues.

The court said only two days are left for the committee to end its term, so the petitioner can ask for a ban on the extension of the term of the committee, if it is so done.

The High Court also issued notices to Col Kirori Singh Bainsla and Dr Roop Singh for the proposed mahapanchayat in Dholpur.
