Govt to come up with 'India Innovation Act'
New Delhi, Sept 10 (UNI) The Government today said it has decided to bring in a legislation to give a fillip to research and innovation, and position India as a leader in the 21st century.
''We want to bring in an 'India Innovation Act' to spur innovation in the country, for which we would like FICCI to draft legislation and present it to the Government in three months,'' Union Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal said here.
The proposed Act is likely to be modelled on the lines of the 'America Competes Act', which focuses on three primary areas of importance to maintain and improve innovation in the US in the 21st century, the Minister said.
These areas are increasing research investment, strengthening education opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics from elementary through graduate school and developing an innovation infrastructure.
He expressed confidence that over the next one year the Indo-US Task Force would be able to prepare a comprehensive roadmap to make Indo-US partnership in innovation successful.
