Govt stop land acquisition process for Tatas: DPI
Puducherry, Sep 10 (UNI) Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) leader Thol Thirumavalavan today urged the Tamil Nadu government to stop the land acquisition process for the Tatas to set up titaniumdioxide plant in southern districts of Tamil Nadu.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Thirumavalavan said the Tatas should directly acquire the required land on lease from the land owners. The land owners should be entrusted with the supply of sand to the plant after fixing the rate.
He demanded that the government should grant permission, for setting up the plant, to an industrialist from Tamil Nadu, if any.
All decision pertaining to the plant should be taken only after carefully analysing the environmental aspect.
He wanted the state government to make it clear whether there were any resettlement plans for the villagers, who would be vacated from their present settlements.
He also demanded that the government should ensure that the proposed power plant at Cuddalore would not affect the livelihood of the people, living near, by any means.
