Einstein's theory needs correction: Birla Centre Director
Hyderabad, Sep 10 (UNI) Asserting that Einstein's theory, which states velocity of light is same for all frequencies of radiation, needs correction, B M Birla Science Centre, High Energy Astro Physics and Cosmology Director B G Sidharth today said the velocity of light depends on the frequency of radiation.
In a press release here, Dr Sidharth said in his recent work, he found that the velocity of light was not same for all radiations.
The difference was extremely small and observable only at very high frequencies for radiations like Gamma waves, which were far more powerful than x-rays.
He said recently MAGIC telescope, being coordinated by Prof A De Angelis of the University of Udine, Italy, in the Canary Islands of Spain had detected a large Gamma ray flare in the galaxy Mkn501, which had a black hole in the centre.
The flare was believed to have caused by a huge amount of matter falling into this black hole. So powerful was the flare that the brightness of the galaxy doubled in just two minutes. The MAGIC telescope detected a difference of four minutes in the arrival time of high energy gamma rays, the release added.
He also refuted Einstein's theory that states spacetime was smooth and continuous, saying his work pointed to spacetime that was grainy and not smooth.
He further said the photon taken by Einstein appeared to have very tiny mass, which was supposed to be massless, the release added.
