Doctor booked for killing peacock
Jammu, Sep 10 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir State Wildlife Department has booked a doctor for allegedly hunting a peacock in Nowshera forests of Rajouri district, official sources today said.
A local doctor, identified as Ishar Singh, posted at the Sub-District Hospital, Nowshera, had shot dead the national bird at Nariyan forest area near the Line of Control (LoC), sources said.
Following the protests of locals against the killing of a peacock, the department seized the gun used for hunting and the skeleton of the bird, sources said.
Hunting of a national bird can lead an offender to a punishment of nearly six years and a fine up to Rs 25,000, a Wild Life official told UNI
