Angul, Sep 10 (UNI) The Opposition Congress sponsored bandh in Orissa hit the coal production in the Mahanadi coalfield Limited (MCL).

Official sources said the coal production and dispatch in its Talcher coalfield came to a halt for about ten hours since eight in the morning.

Coal dispatch to NALCO was hit but was normal to NTPC power plant at Kaniha.

MCL offiials said loss of the public sector undertaking due to the bandh was Rs 6 crore as the Coalfield normally produces 1.3 lakh tonne per day from its six open cast mines..

In Talcher coalfield the authorities managed to maintain production till eight to nine in the morning before the supporters enforced the bandh.

The authorities had to stop all sorts of production, wagon loading and dispatch till the 1800 hours when the bandh came to an end. Sources said the bandh had virtually no impact on the works in NTPC power plants and NALCO though congress workers resorted to slogan shouting and picketing.
