BJP Councillor Rakesh Rathore elected as Jalandhar Mayor

Jalandhar, Sep 10 (UNI) BJP Councillor Rakesh Rathore was today elected unopposed as Mayor of Jalandhar city.

The name of Mr Rathore was proposed by Gurmeet Singh Nagra (SAD) and seconded by Pushpender Singh in the first meeting of the newly elected members of the Municipal Corporation here.

Shiromani Akali Dal councillors Kamaljeet Singh Bhatia and Pravesh Tangri were unanimously elected as Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively.

Mr Rathore is the fourth Mayor of the city. The MC elections were held on August eight in which the SAD-BJP combine had won 39 seats in the 60-member House.

The election was held in the presence of Divisional Commissioner S R Ladhar, who also administered the oath to all the Councillors, presiding officer Harbhajan Singh Tangal conducted the proceedings.

State BJP president Rajender Bhandari, Local Bodies Minister Manoranjan Kalia, Amritsar Member of Parliament Navjot Singh Sidhu, MLAs Jabgir Singh Brar, Avinash Chander, Bhagat Chunni Lal and KD Bandhari were also present in the House.
