AP Govt to appoint vidya volunteers in hostels

Hyderabad, Sep 10 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to appoint special Vidya volunteers under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in all the 4,238 residential hostels in the state.

Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, during his review meetings in the districts, felt the necessity of the remedial training in the three subjects of Mathematics, Science and English and decided to appoint them in the hostels, a release issued here said.

The government would pay a honorarium of Rs 1500 per month to each Vidya volunteer. These volunteers would be appointed in 2,356 social welfare, 1,429 backward classes, 441 tribal welfare and 12 miniority residential hostels in the state.

Two volunteers each would be appointed in the hostel for the students studying first standard to seventh standard while three volunteers would be appointed in the hostel for the students studying from first standard to eight standard and one Vidya volunteer for the students studying from eighth class to tenth class.

These volunteers would give remedial training to the students in Mathematics, Science and English subjects and the District Collector would appoint the eligible vidya volunteers available locally.
