Two policemen injured in pitch battle in Khardah

Barrackpore, Sep 09 (UNI) At least two police personnel and a number of demonstrators were injured in a pitched battle during a road blockade on B T Road under Khardah police station in North 24 Parganas here today.

Trouble began when police intervened to remove a blockade organised by the residents of Agarpara.

Local people, including women and Congress and Trinamool Congress supporters, were demanding arrest of the husband of Anupama Basu Roy, who was allegedly killed on September five last.

The demonstrators turned violent and pelted stones injuring two police officers on duty.

SDPO, Belgharia Ashok Roy also alleged that his jeep was also attacked by the mob. Demonstrators, however, alleged that police lathi charged initially injuring a good number of peaceful demonstrators.
