Sikkim girl wins ticket to Femina Miss India
Guwahati, Sep 9 (UNI) Gitanjali Thapa was crowned the mega Miss North East 2007, paving her way to the Femina Miss India pageant.
Hailing from the Himalayan state of Sikkim, Ms Thapa competed with 20 other finalists to win the crown and captivated judges and audience with her beauty and brains here yesterday.
Ms Thapa, along with four other top runners, would be eligible for a direct entry into the prestigious Femina Miss India contest if they met the routine height eligibility and a few other specifications.
Nagaland beauty Catherina Rose was adjudged the first runner-up, while Monalisa R Marak of Meghalaya was the second runner-up.
The other two beauty queens who made it to the top five of the mega contest were Sabasini Laishram of Assam and Urmila Lama of Arunachal Pradesh.
Another contestant from Assam, who had all eyes set on her for her humble roots - Priyanka - however, failed to make the cut.
Orphaned at a young age, Ms Priyanka is an inmate of the SOS Village in Guwahati.
