Jaipur, Sep 9 (UNI) The Indian Foundation of Transport Research and Training (IFTRT) has called for the strict implementation of the Central Motor Vehicle (CMV) Act in the wake of Rajasthan's worst road accident in Rajsamand district that killed over 86 people and injured 60 on Friday.

A study by S P Singh, Sr fellow and co-ordinator of the IFTRT--an independent organisation engaged in research and monitoring of passengers and goods transport, has found grave violations of rules in the case. Police here have registered a case of ''rash and negligent driving'' against the truck-trailor driver.

Mr Singh, in his report, said the truck-trailor driver had not only broken the permit conditions by carrying people instead of goods but also used a horizontal wooden partition to make a two-storey accomodation for accomodating more passengers.

The report also found fault with the government for not puting in place ''a permanent institutionalised mechanism to carry out investigation and analysis into fatal road accidents as per the 135 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988''.

''There is a strong need to strictly implement various provisions of the CMW Act against vehicles' owners and drivers, who are usually allowed to go scot-free after serving a routine punishment of rash and negligent driving, to prevent such accidents in future,'' the report said.

Eightysix pilgrims were killed and 60 injured when a truck-trailor, which was on way to Ram Devra temple, plunged into a gorge at Daisuri-Ki-Nal in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan.
