Jamir discusses Northeast politics with PM
Kohima, Sep 9 (UNI) Amidst growing speculations about the return of Goa Governor and former Chief Minister of Nagaland S C Jamir to state politics, Mr Jamir called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi yesterday to discuss various issues pertaining to the North Eastern Region (NER).
In a statement here today officer on special duty (OSD) to the Goa governor Sebastian said Jamir had expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the generous grants and fund provisions to the NER, especially the state of Nagaland in last few years.
He requested him to continue to be generous with the states as these states have not enough resources of its own.
He also requested the Prime Minister to ensure that these funds were judiciously and properly utilised and that the benefits percolated down to the common people, especially in backward states like Nagaland.
Mr Jamir appreciated the Centre for its look east policy and expressed confidence that the policy, if implemented in letter and spirit, would change the mindset and fortunes of the people of the entire region through commerce and trade with the ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) countries.
Further, the PM and Jamir discussed over the law and order situation of the entire north east in presence of the national security advisor.
Commenting on Nagaland, Mr Jamir pointed out that the people wanted permanent solution to the protracted Naga political problem so that they could live peacefully. He insisted that the mutually agreed upon cease-fire ground rules should be adhered to strictly both in letter and spirit by all the parties concerned, the statement added.
