Haryana govt cancels 104 licenses of ration depots

Chandigarh, Sep 9 (UNI) The Vigilance Cell of the Haryana Food and Supplies Department cancelled 104 licenses and forfeited security of 410 ration dealers, amounting to over Rs 2.57 lakh for indulging in various corrupt practices in the distribution of essential commodities among the people.

Stating this here today Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said that 13 cases had been registered with the police and 9 persons had been arrested. Goods amounting to over Rs 32,060 had been seized from these traders.

He said that 5162 MTs rice was distributed among the people living below below poverty line. Similarly, 11,410 MTs of wheat was distributed for the consumers of BPL category and under the Untodaya Aan Yojana, 9703 MTs of wheat was distributed among the beneficiaries besides 560 MTs of sugar was also distributed.

He said that at present 9700 fair price shops were functioning in the state-- 6970 in the rural areas and 2730 in the urban areas.

He said that with a view to provide cheap essential commodities to the people through fair price shops, new fair price shops had been opened.

As many as 77 shops had been located near industrial units and 2 2 near schools and hostels for providing goods to the labour and students at cheaper rates.
