Gitanjali stable but recovery long process, needs support: Doc
New Delhi, Sep 9 (UNI) Gitanjali Nagpal, the former model who was earlier this week admitted to the Vidyasagar Institute of Medical Health and Neurosurgery after being found in a state of penury and a "mentally unstable" condition, is in a stable emotional state but doctors treating her say full recovery could be a long drawn process ''requiring a lot of support from family and society''.
''Gitanjali is showing stable emotional behaviour, trying slowly to come to terms with reality. However, full recovery is a long drawn process which requires a lot of support from her family and society,''Dr Jitender Nagpal of the VIMHANS, who is treating Gitanjali, told UNI here.
Dr Nagpal said that although no member of Gitanjali's family had tried to contact her every since she was admitted to the institute on Wednesday, some indications of social support for her were visible when her enstranged German husband Robert Stuempfl, on hearing about the condition of Gitanjali, expressed his desire to get in touch with her.
According to reports, Robert Stuempfl chanced to see photographs of Gitanjali in dire straits when he clicked on a web page.
Shocked to see the face of a woman he claims is his wife and the mother of his child stare back at him, the German urged the creator of the post (Sheetal) to put him in touch with her.
Sheetal posted Robert's email to her, where he says,''Gitanjali is the mom of Arthur and he needs his real mom and whatever happened, I don't care about it.'' According to the blog, Robert has also mailed across his marriage certificate as well as Arthur's birth certificate. The post says that Robert attached these proofs in an email to convince Sheetal of the truth of his claim.
Dr Nagpal said it was advisable that anyone who happened to know Gitanjali or was close to her come forward to contact her through the Delhi Commission for Women so as to ensure that she gets the required social support so much needed for her recovery.
Over the last week, the media has been abuzz with how Gitanjali, a top model in the 90s who had once sashayed down the ramp with the likes of Sushmita Sen, was recently rescued from the pavements in the national capital by a team from Delhi Commission for Women.
Geetanjali, daughter of a naval officer, who completed her schooling from Mount Carmel and her higher studies from the prestigious Lady Sri Ram College, was found begging in the streets of Hauz Khas village in New Delhi.
