Four heavily armed Pak infiltrators killed, a soldier injured in J&K

Srinagar, Sep 9 (UNI) Four heavily armed Pakistani infiltrators were killed by the alert security forces in Machil sector while an Army jawan was injured in a militant attack in Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir.

A defence ministry spokesman said troops guarding the border noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) at Muthal Nar in Machil sector under the cover of darkness.

He said when the militants crossed the Line of Control (LOC) troops challenged them and asked them to surrender, he said.

Instead they resorted to indiscriminate firing on troops, the fire was returned and the fierce fight continued for several hours, he added.

The spokesman said with the first light this morning, troops conducted search operation in the area and found four bodies of militants. Four AK rifles and a huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants who were yet to be identified.

About 50 militants have so far been killed by the alert troops immediately after they crossed over to this side from PoK this year.

A report from Jammu said militants attacked security forces near Nagi Post on Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch District.

The security forces also retaliated and in the exchange a jawan identified as Til Bahadur Thappa of 2/8 Gorkha Rifles, received bullet injuries. He was hospitalsied, it said adding the militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

Security forces recovered six hand grenades, three RPG shells, two mortar bombs, two Improvised Explosive Device relays, one AK magazine, three metres of flexible electric wire and 136 rounds during a search operation in Poonch district of Jammu region last evening.
