Pondy: Univ to set up IS and teaching center

Puducherry, Sep 7: The Pondicherry Central University proposes to set up a Centre for Information Science and Teaching, Vice-Chancellor Prof J A K Tareen said today.

Speaking at the inaugural function of Faculty Development Programme on leveraging the curriculum and building competency of the UG and PG students here, he said the center would help to develop job oriented training skills.

He said the teachers should update their knowledge in view of the rapid developments taking place.

Former Director of IIT Chennai and Advisor of Tata Consultancy Service C K Muthukrishnan said there were lot of employment opportunities in the IT sector and a dearth of skilled manpower to meet the requirement.

He also said there was no need for a total change in the frame work of teaching curriculum but it should be industry-oriented.
