MP: Scholarship for all village girls

Bhopal, Sep 8: The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to enlarge the 'Gaon Ki Beti' scheme to cover all village girls having passed twelveth class examination in first division for granting monthly scholarship of Rs 500 for higher education.

So far, the benefit was given to only one girl of every village who scored highest marks among all first divisioners in the village.

The amended rules have been released accordingly, official sources said.

The number of beneficiaries was likely to cross 15,000 this year and a budgetary provision of Rs 9.52 crore made, official sources said, adding applications for scholarship would be received till this month end. The scheme launched in 2005-06 had so far benefitted about 5104 girls, including 3264 in 2006-07.
