Chandigarh, Sep 8 (UNI) Mr Justice Ashok Bhan, Supreme Court judge and Executive Chairman, National Legal Services Authority has appreciated the functioning of the country's first Mobile Court in Mewat area of Haryana.

''It has solved 117 cases out of a total of 128 cases taken up and charges were framed in 18 of these cases, within a short period,'' Mr Justice Bhan said in his inaugural address at the 2-day Regional Policy Dialogue of Judges regarding protection of legal and human rights of beneficiary groups.

It may be recalled that the Mobile Court in Mewat was launched on August four.

The regional conference has been organised by National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).

Mr Justice Bhan said that with the implementation of the concept of Mobile Court, the people were not coming to the court, but the Court was at the doorsteps of the people to deliver justice.

Referring to the decision to hold this regional conference, he said that as different regions had been facing different problems, these had to be resolved in their respective contexts.

He said that the problems of this region included that of female foeticide, rural indebtedness, HIV, trafficking in women and young children and drug abuse.

He said that it was necessary to make people aware of their rights. The objective of holding regional conference was to interact and find a common platform to identify common problems and tackle them.

Mr Justice Arijit Pasayat, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chairman, Supreme Court, Legal Services Committee also stressed the need for creating an awareness among the people about their rights.

Suggesting that litigations should be avoided, he said: ''Pre-litigative conciliation is as important as disposing of court cases. Litigations could be prevented by educating the people about their legal rights.

Punjab and Haryana High Court Vijender Jain, who is Patron-in-Chief of Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh Legal Services Authority, thanked the NALSA for providing an opportunity to the Punjab and Haryana High Court to hold this regional conference.
