RS adjourned again, this time till 1430 hrs, on JPC issue

New Delhi, Sep 7 (UNI) Ruckus over the Indo-US nuclear deal and the opposition demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to examine the issue continued to disrupt Rajya Sabha proceedings for the third day in succession today, forcing adjournment of the House till 1430 hrs.

This is the second time today that the House was adjourned on the issue.

Earlier, the Question Hour could not be taken up as the opposition persisted with the demand for a JPC, forcing adjournment till 1200 hrs.

As the House re-assembled at 1200 hrs for taking up further business, the first five minutes passed off peacefully and many papers and Reports of Department-related Standing Committees attached to different Ministries were laid on the table.

As Deputy Chairman Rahman Khan called for taking up Zero Hour, the entire opposition, led by the BJP, was on its feet, demanding constitution of the JPC. The opposition members shouted slogans and trooped into the well of the House.

The noise and slogan shouting continued for 15 minutes after which the Deputy Chairman adjourned the House till 1430 hrs.

Amid the din, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora and Surface Transport Minister T R Baalu introduced two Bills -- the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology Bill, 2007, and 'The Carriage by Road Bill, 2005, -- respectively.

The House later passed the Carriage by Road Bill even as the protests by the opposition continued.
