Rodrigues inaugurates new building block of PU Law Dept

Chandigarh, Sep 8 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Administrator, Chandigarh, Gen (Retd) SF Rodrigues today inaugurated Block II of the Law Department of Panjab University.

In his inaugural address, General Rodrigues called for a serious introspection regarding our adherence to the objectives enshrined in our Constitution and the laws enacted for meeting the goals of a welfare state.

General Rodrigues appealed to the legal fraternity to evolve a more responsive mechanism to ensure speedy, transparent and prompt delivery of justice. He said that the Public should also be made aware of new developments in this field, from time to time.

Panjab University Vice Chancellor Dr R C Sobti, while speaking on the occasion, said "The Department of Law is one of the premier institution of legal education, which has produced eminent people in the legal profession and other areas of services." "This two storey building constructed on a plot area of 6627 sq ft would provide a platform to improve the professional standard of legal education by holding 'moot court' competitions, seminars and special lecturers by the legal luminaries," Mr Sobti said.

He said that at the global level, the department had an exchange programme with European Law Students Association in pursuance of which every year a group of students from Stockholm University, Sweden visits the Department and participates in the academic activities for approximately a month and in return the Department also send a group of students to Sweden on exchange basis.

"With the addition of this new block, the Department will make great strides to strengthen and improve the qualitative components of its students who in the years to come would excel in their respective fields," the Vice Chancellor said.
