Belgaum, Sep 8 (UNI) Additional Director General of Police Shankar Bidri today ordered a departmental inquiry over some police officials in the city being guilty of not taking timely action against don-turned-politician Pravin Shintre, killed by the police in an encounter on September six.

Shintre, a notorious 'supari' killer, was accused of committing six murders during the last 18 months, including the August 13 rape and murder of a 28-year-old housewife in the city.

Speaking to newspersons here Mr Bidri said some officials were found to be negligent and lenient towards the outlaw and strict action would be initiated against them, he said.

He however lauded the work done by the team of the city police which successfully spotted Shintre holed up on a Udupi lodge and nabbed him and brought him back to the city. Two more members of the gang were still absconding and they would be nabbed soon, he said.

When the police took Shintre to his house where he allegedly committed the last murder, the rowdy allegedly took out a revolver hidden in the toilet and shot at the police. In defence police shot two rounds killing him on the spot.
