One member of family entitled to society membership: HC

New Delhi, Sep 8 (UNI) The Delhi High court has held that only one member of a family is eligible for the membership of a housing society in view of the land becoming a ''scarcer commodity'' in the national capital.

A Division Bench of Justices Mukul Mudgal and Reva Kehtrapal recently ruled that the members of a family-- husband, wife or a child-- are not entitled to enjoy more than one membership in the housing society.

''As land has become the scarcest commodity in Delhi and cooperative societies receive land at rates far less than the market rates, the rationale ought to be the benefit of public,'' the order said.

Quoting the Delhi Cooperative Societies Rules to remove the ambiguity, the HC directed the Registrar of Cooperative Societies to implement the law accordingly.
