Mono rail to connect Raja Sansi airport with Golden Temple

Chandigarh, Sep 8 (UNI) In order to promote religious tourism in Punjab, the Asian Development Bank has undertaken a project to connect Sri Guru Ram Das International Airport at Raja Sansi with Golden Temple in Amritsar by a Mono-rail.

The bank also proposes to build world class infrastructure for the proposed International Airport at Mohali.

A high powered 3-member team from the ADB led by Mr Ludwig G.

Rieder, today met Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and asked for detailed project reports to be submitted within the next ten days with regard to these projects.

The meeting was attended by Punjab Toursim Minister Hira Singh Gabria, Chief Minister's Media Advisor H S Bains and Chief Secretary R I Singh among others.

In addition to these projects, the ADB agreed to finance road projects connecting the Raja Sansi Airport to the Grand Trunk Road, Ajnala-Dera Baba Nanak-Gurdaspur, Banga-Garshankar-Anandpur Sahib, Sultanpur Lodhi-Goindwal Sahib-Khadur Sahib and Beas.

The ADB would also help in promoting infrastructure on the pilgrim circuit of Sri Hargobindpur-Qadian-Guman, Sultanpur Lodhi-Khadur Sahib-Goindwal, Dera Baba Nanak-Batala and Anandpur Sahib-Chamkaur Sahib-Kiratpur Sahib-Fatehgarh Sahib.

The bank would also help the Government to fill existing gaps in the elevated road project in Amritsar. In addition, the entire city would be given a face lift involving decongestion of the walled city.

The ADB would also help to promote natural heritage tourism for which seven eco-tourism sites were identified with the focus on wetlands and rivers, including Harike and Ropar wetlands.
