Lok Sabha pays homage to Tarkeshwari Sinha

New Delhi, Sep 7 (UNI) The Lok Sabha today paid homage to its former member Tarkeshwari Sinha.

Mrs Sinha, who served as Deputy Finance Minister from 1958 to 1964, died here on August 14 at the age of 81, after a brief illness.

Making an obituary reference, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said Mrs Sinha was an excellent orator who enlivened the debates of the House with her wit and sparkling recitation of Urdu poetry and took keen interest in vocal music and literary pursuits.

She was a member of the First to Fourth Lok Sabhas from 1952 to 1970, representing Patna East and Barh constituencies of Bihar.

A firebrand student leader, Mrs Sinha was a member of Bihar's Women Federation during 1950 and Working Committee of the Provincial Health Education Conference. She also served as the President, Patna District Board Employees's Association.

The members then stood up in silence for a short while as a mark of respect to the departed member.
