Lok Sabha adjourned till 1400 hrs on nuclear issue

New Delhi, Sep 7 (UNI) The Lok Sabha was adjourned today for the second time till 1400 hrs with the Opposition staging uproarious scenes, demanding constitution of a Joint Parliamenatary Committee (JPC) on the Indo-US nuclear deal.

Soon after the House re-assembled after the first adjournment till noon, the mood of the Opposition made it evident that it would not allow the proceedings to continue until the government yielded to the demand for a JPC to examine the implications of the 123 Agreement.

Members from the Opposition benches were on their feet, demanding a JPC, but yielded to the request of Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee that they raise their point after the papers were laid on the table of the House by members against whom these were listed.

In the meantime, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi announced that former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Janardhana Reddy, who was also a member of the House, had a narrow escape in his home State after being attacked by naxalites. He said the Lok Sabha needed to condemn this dastardly attack.

Mr Chatterjee expressed a similar sentiment and condemned the attack.

Thereafter, he started with the business of the House asking for laying of papers.
