GCMMF gears up to oppose extension of ban on milk powder:Vyas
Anand, Sep 8 (UNI) Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has geared itself up to clash with the Union Government if it decides to extend the term of ban on export of milk powder from India to control price hike of milk and milk products in the domestic market.
Talking to mediapersons here today, GCMMF Managing Director B M Vyas cautioned the Union Government that extension of its ban on export of milkpowder from India could backfire on milk production in the country, as the present policy is discouraging to milk producers.
Mr Vyas said the GCMMF strongly opposed the extension of ban, which was imposed by the Union Government in February this year, till September 30, on the export of milk powder from India.
He said though the Federation unanimously opposed the extension of the term of ban, the line of action, in case the ban on export was given extension, would be decided at the GCMMF members' meeting to be held here on September 18.
The Government's fear of price hike in milk and milk products, in case of the export is allowed, was misplaced as with good monsoon season this year, the production of milk has gone up by 10 lakh litre per day in the country, he added.
