Chess championship at Shimla from Sep 10

Shimla, Sep 8 (UNI) Over 300 participants are expected to take part in the first six-day Snow City International Rating Chess Championship Tournament taking place here from September ten.

Gold Medal winner at the recently concluded World Youth Olympiad at Singapore Shyam Nikhil, under 25 national champion Vinay Kumar and international masters Shriram Jha and I M Chandershekhar Gokhle are expected to take part in the tournament.

The tournament, being organised by HP State Chess Association in collaboration with Shimla District Chess Association under the aegis of All India Chess Federation, is recognised by International Chess Federation (FIDE).

The first, second and third positions carry a cash prize of Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively besides the trophies.

The organisers said the event would provide opportunity to earn their ratings at the tournament, which has received FIDE recognition.

The last date for receiving entires from participants has been extended upto September nine from September three to provide an opportunity to the participants to apply after reaching the town, the organisers added.
