Patiala, Sep 8 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal today advocated that fees in professional colleges should be within reach of common people so that outstanding and economically backward students were not deprived of their studies.

In his address at the National Seminar on 'Family Law: Problems and Perspectives' organised by Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, he called upon for the solution to give education to poor students, who were capable and could not get admission due to higher fee structure in these institutes.

Apart for Medical and Engineering colleges, all universities should consider the matter, he added.

Mr Badal has already announced on Wednesday the review of fee hike in private Medical colleges in the state, following widespread protests from various quarters, especially parents of college-going students and the academic circles, for an earlier unprecedented hike in the fee for private medical institutions.

The Punjab Government has already taken a serious view of various private colleges pressurising the candidates to furnish huge amount of bank guarantee, which was beyond their means and for not accepting the bonds as specified in the notification.
