A person sentenced to 2 years of RI for dowry harassment

Nadiad, Gujarat, Sep 8 (UNI) Nadiad fast track court sentenced a person to two years of rigorous imprisonment for dowry harassment, which led his wife and son to commit suicide.

The fast track court judge A B Bhatt yesterday sentenced Baldevbhai Makwana to RI and slapped a fine of Rs 100, in a case registered against him during September 2006 in Bidaj village of the District.

According to the prosecution, Baldevbhai married Nitaben, a resident of Aslali village in Ahmedabad district during 2001.

However, their happy wedded life turned sour when she was subjected to harassment by Baldevbhai for her failure to bring dowry.

Distressed with the continued harassment, Nitaben (30) took the extreme step and set herself and her three year old son afire on September 26, 2006.
