New Delhi, Sep 8 (UNI) Deliberating upon the latest developments in reconstructive dentistry, experts from across the globe have gathered in the capital for the 35th Annual Conference of the Prosthodontic Society.

The four-day conference -- being held under the aegis of the Army Dental Corps and stewarded by the Director General of Dental Services in the Armed Forces Lt Gen Paramjit Singh who is also currently the President of the Indian Prosthodontic Society -- showcases the latest developments in the field of Prosthodontics including the CAD-CAM technology being used in the developed countries for the fabrication of various restorations from crowns and bridges to maxillofacial prosthesis.

The conference -- being attended by over 1,200 delegates from within the country and abroad -- was formally inaugurated by the Director General of the Armed Forces Medical Services Lt Gen Yogendra Singh here today.

Prosthodontics has proven to be a remarkably adaptable and innovative branch of dentistry as it has evolved and responded to expanding and ever more sophisticated patient needs and new technologies. It was the first speciality involved in reconstruction, a departure from the ablative approach of early dentistry. Over a period of time, it has changed considerably and it possesses a unique set of characteristics that have shaped much of dentistry as it is today.

Dentistry has witnessed a revolutionary change in the use of implants for replacement of missing teeth. The delegates will get an opportunity to upgrade their knowledge in this field as well as other latest developments in Prosthodontics. The theme of the conference 'Treatment Modalities for the Partially Edentulous' is expected to be vigorously deliberated during the conference.

There are some 600 scientific paper presentations, poster presentations and table clinics which would benefit all the prosthodontists and a large number of student delegates attending the conference.

Besides, eleven pre-conference courses on various aspects of Prosthodontics were conducted including dental implants, CAD-CAM restorations, full mouth rehabilitation, maxillofacial Prosthodontics and aesthetic dentistry.

The conference also has a sizeable participation from the dental industry from India and abroad. A trade fair organised on the occasion has some 100 stalls where dental dealers from across the globe have displayed their products and machinery.
