Workers' Bill be introduced in Parliament: CPI(M) to PM
New Delhi, Sept 7 (UNI) A CPI(M) delegation along with party MPs led by senior party leaders Sitaram Yechury and Brinda Karat called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here today to apprise him of the plight of unorganised sector workers in the country.
The delegation reminded Dr Singh of the commitment made in the National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP) of the UPA Government to enact protective legislation for all agricultural workers and other unorganised sector workers in the country.
They also drew Dr Singh's attention to a report of the Government constituted National Commission for Enterprises in unorganised sector (NCEUS) on the conditions of workers. The report speaks about abject distress and impoverishment of the overwhelming majority of the country's productive workforce, which requires urgent and comprehensive redressal.
The delegation members insisted the Prime Minister to pay heed to the NCEUS recommendations and urged him to intervene so that the Bills on comprehensive protective legislation for the workers are finalised and introduced in the current session of Parliament.
Dr Singh assured the delegation that he would look into the matter with utmost sincerity.
