JK: SRTC employees to parade topless on Sept 8

Jammu, Sep 7: Rejecting the Jammu and Kashmir government's invitation of holding a discussion at Srinagar, the agitating employees of the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) today decided to exhibit their discontentment by protesting semi-naked on the city roads here tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the inter-state transport service remained paralysed on the fifth consecutive day as the entire SRTC fleet remained halted at the workshops across the region.

The workers of the Corporation, who were protesting against the apathy of the authorities for not paying their wages for the last four months, will march ''topless'' on the roads tomorrow.

The striking employees' unions of the corporation turned down the invitation of the state government to discuss their issues at Srinagar, demanding the authorities should hold meeting with them at Jammu.

"We were invited to Srinagar for talks but we refused their invitation and want the minister to come to Jammu for dialogue," SRTC Employees Association president (Jammu Wing) Pawan Sharma said.

''Now striking employees have decided to take off clothes and stage 'topless' demonstration against the government decision to express anguish tomorrow,'' he said.
