Small sized eggs call for 'show cause' from Army officers in J&K

Jammu, Sep 7 (UNI) Army has issued a ''show cause'' notice to some officers posted with the Udhampur-based Northern Command on the alleged misappropriation in the purchase of eggs, official source today said.

The show cause notice was issued to officers who were involved in the purchase of eggs for the last four years, as it was found that the size of eggs was below the approved standard for the diet of soldiers, source said.

''Eggs being purchased by the Army in the Northern Command are of about 40 grams each in weight whereas the standard for diet says it should not be less than 48 grams.

Each egg eater soldier, including officers, is given two eggs in daily diet in the Army.

Army spokesman Brig Abhijit Ghua confirmed the reports to the UNI, saying, ''Some officers have been given the show cause notice in this regard.'' Further inquiry will be conducted subsequent to their (officers) reply, he asserted.

About one-third of total army is serving in the Northern Command, which comprises the operational XIV, XV and XVI Corps based in the there parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
