SC asks for details of the detainees in Indian jails
New Delhi, Sep 7 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the Centere and Jammu and Kashmir Government to provide details of the detenus languishing in Indian jails for years without trial.
The details demanded by a bench comprising Justice B N Aggarwal and Justice P P Naolekar include the Pakistanis who had entered the strife torn state of Jammu and Kashmir from PoK.
Panthers Party Chief Bhim Singh in his petition has pleaded before the court to order the immediate release of all detainees languishing in Indian jails for years together without trial.
He has given the details of 52 such prisoners who are facing charges under various Sections of Ranbir Penal code (RPC) and ESA and have been in jails for more than ten years.
The offences alleged against them carry the maximum sentence of life. The court had fixed September 17 for hearing of the PIL.
