Rains lash isolated areas in N-W region

Chandigarh, Sep 7 (UNI) Light to moderate rains lashed isolated areas in Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh during the past 24 hours.

The sun played hide and seek as monsoon clouds hovered at many places in the region during the day.

Moderate rain lashed some areas in Haryana with Rohtak recording 18.2 mm, Karnal 17.6 mm and Hissar 10.7 mm donwnpour till this morning. Ambala also reported rainfall. While light showers lashed parts of Punjab overnight. Amritsar and Patiala recorded 1.0 mm each while Ludhiana received 0.2 mm.

Light to moderate rain pounded some areas in Himachal Pradesh, bringing considerable fall in temperature. Dhundi recorded 14.0 mm downpour overnight. Bhuntar, Shimla and Kalpa also had rainfall.

Tribal areas of the state reeled under low temperatures following snowfall in Kinnaur district recently.

Humid weather conditions prevailed in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas with higher levels of humidity recorded in the city following trace rainfall overnight. The city recorded the maximum humidity at 91 per cent and the minimum at 71 per cent.

The Met department said moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers would occur at many places in Himachal Pradesh and isolated places in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours.
