Pondy Govt Officer goes on fast

Puducherry,Sep 7 (UNI) A government officer who was on a fast here to press for his demands was hospitalised last night as his health deteriorated.

Mr Abhimanyu Mohanty joined the Commercial Tax Department and was promoted as the deputy commissioner on ad-hoc basis. He sought regularisation of services in the post.

As no action was taken, he resorted to agitations like dharna, not taking food during lunch and the like.

Still there was no response. Hence, Mr Mohanty resorted to full time fast from September three even as he attended work.

He fainted yesterday and was admitted to the government general hospital for treatment. The officer was later discharged.

Mr Mohanty had not even collected his salary for the last two months, offical sources said.
