Police apprehend 10 Myanmarese poachers
Port Blair, Sep 7 (UNI) The Andaman and Nicobar Police have apprehended ten foreign poachers from the North Andaman Islands, Diglipur.
Superintendent of Police, Andaman Ashok Chand told UNI today that the engine dinghy used by the poachers along with other items were seized and they had been brought to Port Blair for initiation of necessary legal action against them.
Following a tip-off from a fisherman, the anti-poaching team rushed to the spot and succeeded in apprehending one Myanmarese poacher along with the engine dinghy, loaded with ration articles, HSD oil and diving equipments, the S P added.
The team continued its search and camped in Goldar nallah for apprehending the other poachers, who had fled inside the thick forests.
Finally the police succeeded in nabbing the remaining nine Myanmarese poachers, who were hiding inside the creek covered by thick mangrove forests, Mr Chand stated.
In last one month, this is the third anti-poaching operation conducted by Andaman and Nicobar Police arresting more than 30 Myanmarese poachers altogether. Poachers from Myanmar are repeatedly preying on Andaman ecology for fishing out rich marine wealth.
