No proposal to introduce new train between Delhi and Lahore
New Delhi, Sep 7 (UNI) The government today said there was no proposal to introduce any new train from Delhi to Lahore, in addition to the existing Samjhauta Express that runs on a bi-weekly basis.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Railways R Velu said the existing arrangement involved running of Delhi-Attari Link Express (4001/4002) and Samjhauta Express (4607/4608) as a rail link between Delhi and Lahore on a bi-weekly basis.
''At present, there is no proposal to introduce any new train from Delhi to Lahore,'' he said.
Mr Velu was replying to a query from Nirmala Deshpande (nominated) whether there was any proposal to have a direct train between Delhi and Lahore, like a direct bus.
Replying to another query, the minister said Attari station is in a good shape, but a number of works have been sanctioned for its further improvement.
The works include upgrading Attari station at a cost of Rs 17.68 crore, improving waiting hall and booking counter and providing additional toilets at a cost of Rs 52.08 lakh.
