Nasscom to set up data security council to contain cyber crime
Kolkata, Sep 7(UNI) National IT industry body Nasscom will set up a data security council to check cyber crimes in the country.
Announcing this here today, Nasscom President Kiran Karnik said the council, to be independent in functioning, would set up new standards and best practices in IT industry to act as a deterrent to cyber offences.
'' At present a national skill register is being prepared collecting the details of IT employees in the country. Already 100,000 names have been registered and the figure will touch 500,000 by this year, '' he said at a Nasscom programme.
Mr Karnik said Nasscom was also set to roll out Nasscom Assessment of Competence (NAC), a course to be introduced in university curricula in states for fine tuning job seekers in IT industry.
It had already signed a MOU with West Bengal University of Technical Education for this purpose, Mr Karnik said.
The programme would mainly target at ITeS and BPO sectors and it would also be extended to engineering students.
'' In the east beside Bengal, we have signed MoU with the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region with an objective of administering NAC to 20,000 students across eight states between January 2007 to January 2008, '' he said.
The course had already been introduced in Rajasthan and would be rolled out in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh this year, he said.
