Nashik Nurses observe 'stop work' agitation
Nashik, Sep 7 (UNI) Members of the Nashik District Nurses Association at the district civil hospital here today observed 'stop work' agitation in protest of the administration's inaction regarding various problems of the nurses.
According to sources, the nurses were joined in their strike by the ward boys (male attendants)and other employees working in the morning shift.
This brought the work at the civic hospital to a halt for some time and also caused inconvenience to the patients though there was at least one nurse on duty in each ward, to avoid inconvenience to patients.
An incident of bad treatment to on duty nurses by the relatives of a patient, was the main cause behind the sudden strike. On September 5, a patients from Abhona village, in Kalwan taluka of the district was admitted to the civil hospital. Despite proper treatment given to her, she died.
After this, her relatives abused the nurses and employees on duty. They also threw mud on one of the nurses. The nurses association office bearers had given information of this to the help administration and demanded filing of a complaint against the relatives. But the administration did not pay any heed to the demand.
Angry over this, the nurses association went on strike today.
Deployment of private security guards from a new police chowki with enough employees to be set up at the hospital and no political interference in their work, were some of the major demands of the agitating employees. They held demonstrations in front of the hospital gate and shouted slogans against the administration.
A delegation of the employees presented memorandum of their demands to the District collector, Civil surgeon Dr Dhanwade, Dy Director Health, Dr Dilip Vaidya and police commissioner S M Sayyed.
On assurance of proper action in this regard, the Association has postponed its agitation for sometime.
